Hosting a residential Summer School: top tips and best practice

Just a reminder that the Engagement@Manchester session looking at residential summer schools for under-18s will take place on Wednesday, 19 November (1-2pm) in University Place 3.213

This session will welcome three colleagues to speak about their experiences of running residential pre-application summer schools for school and college students aged 18 and under, share key safeguarding information on working with this audience and type of activity, and will give attendees the chance to discuss their plans for residential activity and ask any questions.

Speakers

  • Sam Kalubowila - Student Recruitment and Widening Participation Coordinator - Sam has over 8 years experience of running residentials, both on and off campus for different age groups and will share his experience and top tips.
  • Rachel Bailey - Student Recruitment and Widening Participation Manager - Rachel will share key information in terms of safeguarding and good practice when planning and delivering a residential activity.
  • Laura Winters – Science and Communication Officer, School of Materials - Laura has experience of running a residential summer school within an academic school both with and without the involvement of an external partner, and will share her experience and top tips.
