Check to see if you need to return your power cord
On August 26, HP issued a worldwide voluntary recall and replacement for power cords provided with some of their notebooks, mini-notebooks and accessories, including those using the Compaq brand. Affected customers are entitled to a free replacement.
HP believes that certain power cords shipped with notebook PC products and AC adapter accessories may pose a risk of a fire and burn hazard to customers.

If you purchased one of the affected devices, you should follow the instructions on that website.
If your device is not affected, you do not need to do anything else.
