Janice joins Memory Walks in tribute to her mum

04 Sep 2014

Janice Ellis, from the Division of Communications and Marketing, is taking part in not one, but two, Memory Walks for the Alzheimer’s Society in the same weekend

Joan Ellis - Janice's mum

Memory Walk is a series of fundraising walking events which take place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland every autumn, all raising money to provide vital support to people living with dementia and help the Alzheimer’s Society to fund research to find a cure for the future.

Janice has volunteered to help out at the Memory Walk in Heaton Park on Saturday, 27 September, where she will be a route marshal, pointing walkers in the right direction.

Later that day, she will catch a train to London so that she can join her niece Molly (a student at London Metropolitan University) for the 10K Memory Walk in Victoria Park on the Sunday.

Janice and Molly are walking to remember and pay tribute to their mother and grandmother, Joan Ellis, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2006, and died four years later at the age of 86.

Having seen first-hand the effects of dementia on both the person and their family, however, they are also very happy to try to raise the minimum £50 sponsorship suggested by the charity.
