Help Katrina raise £26,000 in 65 days

Janet Platt in the University Language Centre is appealing for funds to pay for potentially life-saving stem cell treatment in the US for her neighbour's daughter

Last year, our staff donated wool or crocheted squares for blankets to help fund life-saving treatment for Katrina Brown. Katrina, 30, a former Army medic, was exposed to radioactive material whilst on front line duty in Iraq and needs urgent stem cell treatment in the USA.

The initial appeal raised the £21,000 needed to pay for tests in Chicago: these have confirmed that Katrina is eligible for a stem cell transplant which could re-boot her immune system. However, her heart had already been affected by the condition, which hardens skin and organs, and treatment must begin as a matter of urgency.

Katrina has just 65 days in which to raise the remaining £26,000 required to fund her stem cell treatment: that's £400 a day or £17 an hour. The race is on - please help.
