Fire fighter strikes during the Christmas and New Year period

Advice for anyone living or working in a student hall of residence on how to leave the building safely in the event of a fire

The Fire Brigades Union has announced another series of strikes, which will take place as follows:

• Tuesday, 24 December 2013 (7pm to midnight)
• Tuesday, 31 December 2013 (6.30pm) to Wednesday, 1 January 2014 (12.30am)
• Friday, 3 January 2014 (6.30am to 8.30am)

Student residences escape plans 

• Plan an escape route and make sure everyone knows how to escape.
• Make sure exits are kept clear.
• The best route is the normal way in and out of the building.
• Think of a second route in case the first one is not available.
• Take a few minutes to practise your escape plan.
• Review your plan if the layout of your building changes.
