Replay, Revisit and Revise – official launch of Podcasting to students

05 Dec 2013

Activities across campus next week to mark the service launch of Lecture Capture.

Podcasting

You may have already noticed some Podcasting banners going up in and around some central teaching spaces, as part of the service launch in highlighting key lecture capture enabled locations.

Other activities taking place next week include a Facebook competition (in conjunction with the Students Union) which will give one lucky student the chance of winning an iPhone 5C. There will also be service roadshows in Uni Place foyer on 10 December and Renolds House concourse on 11 December; with IT colleagues on hand to offer guidance on accessing lecture Podcasts, along with any other queries.

More information on the service can be found on the Podcasting web pages.

Ahead of this official launch the service has already been up and running, generating positive feedback from students and some impressive statistics:

  • Lecture capture is currently operating across 59 locations
  • Over 135,000 podcasts have been downloaded since September 2013
  • Over a peak week, more than 1,000 hours of lectures are recorded
  • On a peak day, more than 250 hours are recorded
  • The average turn-around time is 3 hours
  • Over 1,000 course units will have lectures podcast during this academic year

Information for teaching staff

As a valuable study and revision aid, The University encourages teaching colleagues to participate in Lecture Capture; however also recognises the personal right of colleagues to choose not have their teaching recorded. As such, in advance of the start of Semester 2 teaching, all colleagues scheduled to teach in capture-enabled locations will receive an opt-out email between 13-17 January.
