Smoking policy updated to include e-cigarettes

05 Jun 2013

Reminder that smoking and using e-cigarettes is not permitted in University buildings and vehicles

The University's ‘Prevention of Smoking Policy’ has recently been updated and you can view this at:

Colleagues are reminded that smoking is not permitted in University buildings or vehicles.

This now also includes e-cigarettes – a decision taken by the University’s Safety, Health and Environment Committee in line with current British Medical Association guidance. To see the BMA guidance visit:

Colleagues are also reminded that there is a five metre ‘exclusion zone’ around entrances to University buildings where smoking is not permitted. This is in line with guidance from the Health and Safety Executive.

Summer is hopefully on its way and, as windows are opened, can smokers please be aware of their potential impact on colleagues in adjacent buildings.
