NSS Results and Reporting

Results of the NSS will be available for internal use only during August and certain items of data will be available publicly from September.

Public Results

Data is made available to the public using the national CAH coding system (Common Aggregation Hierarchy) to enable prospective students to compare courses and Universities.

Programmes are included within subject areas according to their CAH code.

The results are reported at 3 levels, with level 3 being the most disaggregated.

A 50% response rate and 10 respondents are required for external publication.  If this threshold is not met for level 3, the results are included at level 2. The majority of UoM subject areas achieve sufficient responses for results to be reported at level 3.

Internal Results

Universities are also given the results broken down into an internal coding structure of the University's choice.  This is to enable us to analyse the results according to our own departmental and discipline structures, which may not correspond directly to the CAH codes.  For example, results for the CAH subject area of Physical Geography may include University of Manchester programmes from both the School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Science and the School of Environment, Education & Development.

10 respondents is the minimum requirement for internal reporting.  If this threshold is not met, no data will be returned to us for that particular code.

Results from previous years can be accessed via the NSS results webpage.
