Six ways to wellbeing - Be Healthy (all month)

This month's way to wellbeing spotlight is on Be Healthy.

We'll be producing material to support and promote Be Healthy, alongside focusing on a different, salient wellbeing topic each week. Please visit the other items in this menu for more details.

SEX:EDit: sexual health (w/c 7th June)

SEX:EDit: Changing the way we talk and think about sexual wellbeing at The University of Manchester.

Managing your sexual wellbeing is a vital part of the student experience.

The sex education system in the UK is still not where it needs to be. With organisations like Sexpression and Brook working tirelessly to fight for more open, honest and safe conversation about sex and wellbeing, we hope that as The Student Wellbeing Team we can help contribute to this discourse.

This week, we will be launching our SEX:EDit campaign, which aims to change the way we talk and think about sexual wellbeing at University. To begin, we will be spotlighting sexual health and in particular physical sexual health which includes STI/STD’scontraception and pregnancy.

You can check out this week’s SEX:EDit newsletter by clicking here, and be sure to follow @uomwellbeing for more sexual wellbeing content!

On a final note, we are aware that conversations around sex, sexuality and sexual health are a privilege in our society. Throughout this campaign, we will acknowledge this and provide support where possible.

SEX:EDit: sexual support (w/c 14th June)

SEX:EDit: Changing the way we talk and think about sexual wellbeing at The University of Manchester.

Managing your sexual wellbeing is an important part of living well and taking care of yourself.

Continuing with our SEX:EDit campaign, this week we are spotlighting sexual wellbeing and support. This includes an overview of the University's Report and Support platform, dealing with disclosures, consent and support for student sex workers. All the information you need is detailed in the newsletter and on our Instagram page @uomwellbeing - be sure to follow the campaign for takeovers, resources, reading lists and helplines.

SEX:EDit: sexual empowerment (w/c 21st June)

This is our third and final week of our SEX:EDit campaign and to celebrate, we shall be exploring Sexual Empowerment and Sex Positivity. This includes discussions on sexuality, sexual pleasure and sex and disability. To mark the end of the campaign, we have an exciting take over from @mydisabledsexlife on our wellbeing Instagram page who will discuss her own journey with sex positivity and talk about ways we can work to normalise dialogues around sex and disability.

It is important to remember that in a sex positive space, there is often emphasis on being open about our sexual desires and empowering people to talk about and take ownership of their body and their sexuality. But it's important to highlight that sex positivity is about respecting everyone's differences, and championing all genders, sexualities and sexual orientations. People on the asexual (ace) spectrum can be sex-positive too!

You can check out this week’s SEX:EDit newsletter by clicking here. You can also see a smaller version of the newsletter below.

Student Wellbeing Champions

The Wellbeing Champion programme is growing bigger and stronger each year. Every two months, the Champions will help amplify our Six Ways to Wellbeing campaigns. Their role is to support the current theme, whether that’s by helping at or promoting a wellbeing event, running their own or creating content for our social media and blog. This is an opportunity for students to take action towards wellbeing and make their student community seen and heard.

We have recently launched our own social media platform @uompodium! Follow for student-led content and resources and keep up to date with our events and workshops!

Over the period of Be Active, we have been and will continue to focus on the inclusivity and diversity of the fitness and wellness space with events and resources on the whitewashing of wellness and the body neutrality versus the body positivity movement.

If you have any queries about any of the activities here, please get in touch at studentsupport@manchester.ac.uk.
