Leadership and management

Learn

If you wish to develop your leadership or management skills, why not consider completing a development programme? Applications are open for L&OD’s Leadership and Management programmes until Friday, 16 September.

These programmes are structured around effective people management and development principles, including building effective relationships, setting direction, creating a performance environment, and adapting and developing teams. All our programmes use a blended learning approach to maximise the learning experience and to take account of different learning preferences.

For shorter or more focussed development, there are several options you can consider including:

  • LinkedIn Learning which has hundreds of courses on all areas of leadership and management
  • Learning for All calendar of short courses, which includes topics such as Successful Delegation, Difficult Conversations and Developing Your Team’s Performance.

Lead

For guidance, tips and advice for leaders and people managers, see our Managers’ Essentials pages. This a range of information on topics such as welcoming new starters, managing performance, and how to apply our People & OD policies and procedures. Itsalso a helpful resource for aspiring people managers to familiarise with key knowledge and processes.

Progress

Building our self-awareness is key in understanding how others perceive us, and can provide a basis for significant personal growth. Two frameworks and related tools have been established to support this for current and aspiring leaders and managers:

Whether you are currently in or aspiring into a management or leadership role, these frameworks give an overview of key qualities and competencies for effective performance, against which you can assess your current strengths and development areas.
