Copying content in Canvas

18 Feb 2026

A guide to the required processes for copying and importing content from migrated spaces into 25/26 canvas courses.

Following a number of support requests regarding students not being able to access content, the Humanities eLearning team would like to re-emphasize the required processes for copying and importing content from migrated spaces into 25/26 canvas courses. This may be particularly useful to any new members of staff or those who began teaching in semester 2 who may be less aware of the processes to ensure the correct content is displayed and accessible in Canvas.

You can check students’ ability to view or access content in your Canvas course by using the 'View as Student' button or 'Verifying the links in your course' button. Information on how to do this can also be found in this guide or by enrolling in the Canvas Go! Tutorial Hub. There are two recommended processes for copying content, Import content or Copy content, both of which are also outlined in the guide.

When copying videos, Canvas course builders are reminded that the most successful way to ensure videos are accessible to all those enrolled is to use Canvas Studio to add videos to a course. Links to videos from Blackboard will no longer work and links to videos on other courses require people to also be enrolled on that course. Information on using Canvas Studio to add videos to courses is covered in Canvas Go Tutorial Hub.

If you would like to discuss this further, or require any assistance in curating your content, you can book a 1:1 with a member of the eLearning team within your School:
