Faculty of Humanities Canvas update
17 Dec 2025
An update on publishing courses for Semester 2 and upcoming training sessions.
Publish Semester 2 courses in Canvas
We would like to remind colleagues to ensure all Semester 2 courses are ready and published in Canvas by Monday, 19 January, when they will become available to students.
Read the instructions on how to publish courses in Canvas.
Based on student feedback at a Faculty Forum, smart search, which can be found in the left-hand navigation menu, has been enabled in all courses. This feature allows students to search within a course and easily locate content. As Canvas has improved how easily we can manage thousands of courses simultaneously, we have been able to action student-requested changes in as little as eight days from request to implementation.
Canvas Confidence drop-in
Canvas Confidence, a drop-in event focused on supporting academic colleagues with the platform, will take place in the Booth Street East building on Wednesday, 14 January from 10am-2pm.
The event is open to new and returning academics and will give colleagues the opportunity to speak to a member of the Humanities eLearning team and have their questions answered.
There is no need to sign up to the event in advance and refreshments will be provided.

Canvas Go! Semester 2 primer sessions
The Humanities eLearning team is running a series of online primer sessions throughout January to help academics get ready for Semester 2 on Canvas.
The sessions will cover:
- Building content in Canvas (modules, items, pages and checking accessibility)
- Grading and giving feedback in Canvas
- Using video in Canvas
- Migrating your Blackboard content to your Canvas course
If you are leading a course in Semester 2, starting teaching for 2025/26 in Semester 2 and/or you would like a refresher on these topics, please sign up to a training session.
View the schedule of sessions and book your place.
Support and guidance
If you need any further help to build your Semester 2 courses, you can find guidance, support requests and bookable 1:1s on the Humanities Canvas mini-site.
