Sixteen staff members and teams from across the School were recognised this week for their outstanding contribution to teaching, learning and student experience. The Humanities Outstanding Staff awards are presented annually and are awarded to colleagues who have been nominated by students for their outstanding performance. These awards celebrate the dedication, innovation and commitment of our staff, whose efforts significantly enhance the academic journey and personal development of our students.

Colleagues from SEED won two awards this year, with the award for best programme being presented to the MA Leadership in Practice (ELiP) team from the Manchester Institute of Education and the award for best Postgraduate Dissertation Supervisor being presented to Catherine Atkinson-Ross, also from the Manchester Institute of Education.

Paul Armstrong, Programme Director for the MA ELiP programme said, “We are genuinely humbled that the MA Educational Leadership in Practice programme has been named Outstanding Programme of the Year for the Faculty of Humanities. The fact that this award is based on student feedback makes it all the more gratifying. The MA ELiP is a real collaborative and international effort and so this award is recognition for all the amazing colleagues who support the management and delivery of the programme including the academic team and the technical and professional support staff here in Manchester and across the global centres in Shanghai, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore.”

Fourteen other colleagues gained commendations at the awards, in six different catagories:

  • Undergraduate Dissertation Supervisor: Andrew Gunn (MIE), Carl Emery (MIE) and Eric Lybeck (MIE)
  • Teaching (lecturers and TAs): Stephen Rayner (MIE), Kathryn Telling (MIE), Lawrence Ado Kofie (GDI) and Lujia Feng (GDI).
  • Professional staff: Matty Woodcock (TLSE Administrator)
  • Teaching and Employability: Jade Fawcett (GIS Technical Specialist)
  • Academic Advisor: Antonio Savoia (GDI) and Catherine Atkinson-Ross (MIE)
  • Postgraduate Dissertation Supervisor: Farhad Hossain (GDI), Helen Hanna (MIE) and Paul Armstrong (MIE)

Congratulations to all winners and commended colleagues!
