A message from Khalid Nadvi, our new Head of School
01 Aug 2025
In his first message in his new role, Khalid looks forward to meeting and working with colleagues to build on our strengths and successes.
Dear all,
On my first day as Head of the School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED), I thought I would get in touch to say how honoured and excited I am to start my new role. Having worked in SEED for 20 years, I know what a great School we have, and I have been touched (but not surprised!) by the fantastic support I have already received.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Juup for his outstanding leadership as interim Head of School over the last nine months. His commitment, along with the dedication and expertise of our academic and professional services colleagues, mean that I step into my new position with the School having much to celebrate. I am delighted that he will continue as Deputy Head of School, bringing his wise counsel to the School leadership team (SLT), and I am very grateful to Linda Evans for her valuable service as Deputy.
Many thanks also to Phil Hughes, who is stepping down as Head of Geography, for his contribution to SLT and stewardship of the department, and welcome to Will Fletcher as the new Head of Department.
Our collegial environment as a School is one of our greatest strengths, and I am very much looking forward to meeting and working with you all to maximise SEED’s potential and jointly tackle our challenges. I am confident that together we can make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead and build on our excellent reputation for teaching, learning and student experience; research; impact; and social responsibility.
Best wishes,
Khalid
Professor Khalid Nadvi, Head of the School of Environment, Education and Development
