Ellen Wilkinson: C Block corridor refurbishment works from 10 February
07 Feb 2025
Work to take place from Monday, 10 February until early June 2025
As part of the School of Environment, Education and Development’s ongoing improvement to School estates, refurbishment works in the corridor in C block (ground floor) in the Ellen Wilkinson building will begin from Monday, 10 February 2025 until early June 2025.
To minimise disruption as much as possible, we’re getting in touch to provide information about temporary changes to accessibility in the building during the works, upcoming noise disruption and a reminder of what the new space will feature.
Accessibility changes
During the refurbishment works, the C block corridor on the ground floor will be closed. Access to the building as well as access to the lift, will remain at the C block entrance, opposite the Samuel Alexander building.
To access B block from C block, please use the staircase or lift to reach an upper floor, then follow signage to the B block.
If you usually use the C block to reach A or B blocks, please use the A block entrance to directly access these blocks (opposite the AQA building).
The staircases and emergency escape route will remain accessible at all times and direction signage will be in place to inform building users of the diversions.
House Services
House Services will continue to operate throughout the project; however, post room services will be temporarily relocated to Sam Alex. The House Service Superintendent will remain in the Ellen Wilkinson Building but will be based in room C2.10 during the refurbishment.
Noise disruption
The first phase of the works will involve demolishing the corridor walls, which will result in some noise disruption at the start of the project. We understand the impact this may have on staff and students and are working closely with the building and estates teams to minimise it as much as possible.
We will provide regular updates to help you plan and prepare for any disruptions.
