What the project will deliver

Improved reporting

  • Data analysts across the University will have access to curated quality-checked datasets, to help answer key questions. This will allow them to provide their teams with accurate data insight and reports to use in their work. The data model we build will be flexible and enriched with additional data over time.
  • PS Services and Faculty Teams will have access to a catalogue of reports in Power BI. It will be easy to find the right data for your needs, from different sources across the University.
  • The data will be presented and named consistently throughout our reports, so you always understand what you’re looking at.

Data governance

  • There will be a framework for how data are controlled and governed across the University – outlining who owns what data and how they should be managed to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • The project will design an 'operating model', defining how we should manage data and reporting services and ensure all teams have access to the support they need. It will outline clear roles, responsibilities, training and development for our data analysts. It will also explore how we can use technology and process changes to support better use of data and reporting across the University.

Skills

  • Our data analysts will be upskilled in tools, processes, ways of working and industry standards – so they can provide an industry-led level of service to their teams.
  • We will better define data-related roles, including governance roles to have better accountability for data management and processing.
  • There will be a Centre of Excellence to support the University’s reporting needs.
  • We will provide data literacy training and resources for academic and professional services staff, to help them use data in their work.
  • We will provide supporting materials for Power BI, enabling staff to access the insight they need.
  • We will train other colleagues to understand the importance of data and how they could help in their work.
