Academic advising
Academic advising plays a key role in a personalised learning environment, the ethos of which is to promote a culture in which:
- respect for learners is paramount: students are actively encouraged to develop constructive relationships with individual teachers
- students have a sense of identity within a cohort of learners
- students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning experience and to develop the constellation of skills associated with a Manchester graduate as defined in the Purposes of a Manchester Education - The Manchester Matrix.
The effect is intended to stimulate a learning culture that enables students to achieve their full potential and whose graduates will be highly competitive in the knowledge economy.
Academic Advising provides support to students during their period of study at Manchester in three areas:
Academic - providing academic guidance on where and how to improve;
Wellbeing and Pastoral care- acting as a point of contact for students experiencing personal difficulties, and signposting students with particular needs to support services;
Employability - helping students think about their future career and writing references.
