Export Controls Training Course
This training course, developed by the Higher Education Research Security Association (HERSA) in collaboration with the government is a critical for understanding and complying with export control regulations. It supports the University’s commitment to ensuring that all research activities align with legislation.
The course provides:
- A nationally consistent approach to Export Control Compliance
- Practical guidance and training materials tailored to the challenges faced by the research sector
- Helpful links and resources for deepening your understanding of export controls
Who Must Complete this Training?
The training is mandatory for:
- FSE and FBMH researchers (PGR and above)
- research-related Professional Services (PS) staff.
- Individuals who use research software or commercial software purchased for either research or non-research purposes.
If you are involved in international collaborations- whether as a researcher or supporting staff- this training is especially critical. Export due diligence checks at UoM are undertaken when working with collaborators or funders outside the UK.

Updates and amendments to export controls legislation are usually covered in this training package. Once you have completed the training, a certificate of completion will be issued. You are also expected to complete this training every 2 (two) years.
