Safe Zone

In an emergency, every second counts, and SafeZone is a free app designed to swiftly connect you to on-campus first aiders, security, or emergency response teams. By enabling rapid access to urgent help, first aid, or wellbeing support. Whether you are a colleague or student, you can quickly get help, contact Campus Support and Security, quickly get help and/or access vital information.  In Emergencies, you will be directly connected to the appropriate services and kept updated through text messages with any critical information you need to know.

The area that is covered has also been expanded through the Manchester SafeZone Alliance, which has been developed with our colleagues at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford. This has created a wider network of safe spaces across our city, working together to provide faster response times and assistance.

The University of Manchester is proud to launch the Staff Champions Network for Safe Zone, a collaborative initiative designed to promote and support the use of the Safe Zone app University wide. This network brings together staff members dedicated to enhancing campus safety by increasing awareness and adoption of the Safe Zone app. We are currently looking for more Safe Zone Champions. If you or anyone on your team is interested ,or would like to know more please contact Wise.Dasilva-Olajide@manchester.ac.uk

Safe Zone Features

Check in

Safe Zone's check-in feature allows you to share your live location with Campus Support and Security(CSaS) responders, who will be able to provide you with the right assistance should you need it. Just click the check in button whilst at work and make sure to check out when you leave.

First Aid

Campus Support and Security (CSaS) receive many first aid requests daily and don’t always have an officer close to the incident. By utilising the Safe Zone app , CSaS can better identify the nearest trained First Aider and coordinate responses more effectively.

Lone Working

When working alone, staff should use the check-in timer on the Safe Zone app to set a pre-alarm. This timer automatically sends an alert on your behalf. Before the timer expires, you will receive a reminder alert, giving you the option to either cancel or extend the timer. If you fail to select one of these options before the timer runs out, an alert will be sent to your manager to check in on you. Additionally, if the timer expires without your response, an alert will be sent to Campus Security and Safety, who will attempt to get in touch with you. To set up a Lone Working Group for your team please contact: Wise.Dasilva-Olajide@manchester.ac.uk

Mass Communications

Starting this year staff will now receive  SMS alerts through Safe Zone in the event of an emergency. These will ensure everyone, whether using a managed device or personal mobile phone, receives real-time notifications. Additionally SafeZone will be expanded to all managed University computers to provide instant, real-time alerts in the event of an emergency.  In the system tray on your taskbar, you may notice a new SafeZone icon, confirming that it is now active on your device.

SazeZone Simulator

Now that you’re familiar with the SafeZone app’s key features, have a go yourself using the SafeZone app simulator below.  This allows you to explore the app’s interface and try out some of the key features without triggering any accidental alerts.
