Ad Solem choir perform at CUHK concert

On Friday, 12 January, performers from The University of Manchester’s student choir Ad Solem took part in The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s 60th Anniversary Global Student Concert ‘Dialogues in Music: Global Connections’.

The choir were joined on stage by student musicians from CUHK and other partner institutions including CUHK-Shenzhen, Tsinghua University and Waseda University. The concert took place in front of a sell out crowd at the Lee Hysan Concert Hall, with many more audience members joining online from around the globe – and you can watch a recording of Ad Solem's inspiring performance here

CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan said, “This concert is a testament to CUHK’s commitment to global engagement and cultural exchange. With music as a universal phenomenon and expression, the concert will foster unity, bridge differences and promote mutual understanding among people from diverse backgrounds, transcending boundaries and creating lasting connections.”

Robert Guy, Choir Director, added: “The University of Manchester has a world leading choral programme which provides our students with the very best professional opportunities, world class training and inspirational music making. I am immensely proud to conduct our choir, and it was an extremely difficult to task to select just thirteen singers for this special occasion. In truth, I could have suggested double the number, such is the talent here at our university.”

Ad Solem is a student-run auditioned chamber choir of 24 singers. The choir enjoys singing an eclectic range of music. They have recently performed in Madrid and Kraków, collaborated with the Hallé and appeared on the BBC’s Songs of Praise
