Performers from The University of Manchester’s student choir Ad Solem are travelling to Hong Kong in the new year to take part in ‘Dialogues in Music: Global Connections’ – a concert in celebration of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s 60th anniversary.

This special event celebrates global engagement through music and cultural exchange.Audiences in the UK are invited to follow this link to join the live stream of the concert on Zoom. The show starts at 11am GMT on Friday 12 January 2024

Talented musicians from the two universities will be joined by groups from CUHK’s other partner institutions around the world, including CUHK Shenzhen, Tsinghua University and Waseda University.

Robert Guy, Choir Director, said:

“The singers and I are really looking forward to going to Hong Kong in January. We know that it is a great honour to represent the University of Manchester internationally, and we want to deliver a brilliant performance. We will perform two concerts at the festival, and take part in a number of workshops involving musicians from all partner universities. We’re particularly proud to sing a piece called 'On the Stork Tower' by Joshua Brown, who lectures in composition at the university. This piece is based on an old Chinese poem, which makes it the perfect choice for the occasion.”

Ad Solem is a student-run auditioned chamber choir of 24 singers. The choir enjoys singing an eclectic range of music. They have recently performed in Madrid and Kraków, collaborated with the Hallé and appeared on the BBC’s Songs of Praise.
