Staff Network Day Event on Wednesday, 8 May

01 May 2024

Celebrate our staff networks this May

Staff Network events

This May, we are shining a light on the contribution of our Staff Networks. Our Staff network groups are a fantastic way to network with people from all over the University.  Many of the groups also offer confidential support and advisory services from their members to any member of staff.

Staff network groups meet regularly, and all have individual agendas and terms of reference. Issues raised by our staff networks groups are fed into our  EDI Committee and the EDI Forum, both of which meet three times a year.

Staff Network event on Wednesday, 8 May

On Wednesday, 8 May, the Directorate of EDI will be hosting the annual event for Staff Network Day. This year, it will take place in the Humanities Bridgeford Building from 11:30am.

There will be an opportunity to visit our Staff Network stalls and meet the co-chairs, who will be happy to answer your questions.

This will be followed by a 40-minute lecture delivered by Isabel Távora (Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management) , Saleema Kauser (Academic in Organisational Strategy and Business Ethics) and Imran Saqib (Alliance Business School Postgraduate). This will provide an introduction to their research project: “Can employee resource groups be a relevant voice mechanism for women and ethnic minority employees? A qualitative investigation of voice purposes, processes and outcomes of employee resource groups”

We will then invite colleagues from University of Law to provide an insight into how their Staff Networks have been integral to their EDI Strategy. This will be followed by lunch and networking.

Below are the links for tickets and further information such as timings:

Please Note: you will be required to purchase two separate tickets to attend both the lecture and the lunch. You are welcome to purchase just one ticket if you’re unable to attend the full event.

Get involved

You can get involved with a staff network group by becoming:

  • a member and share your ideas (members can attend up to four meetings a year across all the groups they are a member of, plus one other associated activity like an event or workshop);
  • an ally and share ideas and feedback without being a member.
  • Chairs of staff network groups are given half a working day per month to carry out their duties (with prior agreement of line manager).
  • Contributions to staff network groups are recognised in Performance and Development Reviews where a colleague has contributed significantly to the work of the group over a sustained period of time.
  • You can find out more about becoming a member or ally of a staff network group by contacting the group or a member of the EDI team.
