FSE GTA LEAP Team (Leaders: Claudia Henninger and Tom Rogers)

This team’s submission detailed how a LEAP (Leadership in Education Awards Programme) scheme has been set up for Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) to help them get Advance HE Fellowship accreditation. The team consists of Academic Mentors and GTA Mentors who have previously been through the programme and successfully achieved Associate Fellow or Fellow status. The GTA Mentors are also mentored by the Academic Mentors to allow them to achieve higher levels of Fellowship. The team have successfully mentored 137 GTAs to Associate Fellow (101) and Fellow (36) status over the past 3 years. They have received positive feedback with successful applicants saying it has helped them get interviews/job offers because it helps them to stand out more. They have also become more confident and passionate about their teaching and can inspire others to do the same. The switch to online delivery has meant there is a greater uptake due to a more flexible approach to delivery meaning more GTAs can take part in the scheme and contribute to enhancing teaching quality at the University.
