SEED Electric Vehicle

SEED staff members are able to use the SEED electric vehicle for work-related business.

To use the vehicle please complete the Electric Vehicle Booking Form. You will need to be logged into Office 365 to access this page.

If this is your first time looking to book and use the vehicle, you must fill in a university driver approval form including all drivers licence details, agree to the conditions listed, and have the form signed by your manager before requesting approval for the dates you require usage. This signed document is to be uploaded to the vehicle booking form.

Approvals are based on a first come, first served basis, so we would ask requests are made as far in advance as possible.

Should approval for the dates requested be given, please complete a Gov.uk licence check and send a copy of the results in PDF format to SEEDschooloffice@manchester.ac.uk

Users of the car also need to be aware of:

  • Car has a range of 239 miles maximum (between full charges).
  • Requests for more than a week may take longer to approve and may need further justification.
  • Car can only be used for work / business purposes (e.g. not regular commuting). This is an insurance requirement.
  • Keys can be collected / returned from SEED School Office (Humanities Bridgeford Street building, office 1.17a) between 10am - 4pm, Monday to Friday (excluding English bank holidays). Keys can be returned to a key box in the same building out of hours, but the hirer should email SEEDSchoolOffice@Manchester.ac.uk to confirm that they have done so. Failure to do this may result in the ability to book the car for future use
  • A valid Staff ID card by the registered driver will need to be shown when picking up the keys.

The way that the University’s motor insurance works is that the vehicle is insured not the individual, but the vehicle’s insurance will only be valid if the driver:

  • has a valid driver’s licence
  • is over 21
  • has been driving for more than 2 years
  • is driving with the permission of the School/Department where the vehicle is kept
  • has completed the Driver Approval Form to evidence the above

Staff should provide line manager approval on the Driver Approval Form. PGR students should provide their PGR supervisor's approval in place of a line manager. At this time, SEED cannot register UGT/PGT students as drivers for the electric car.

The Car is based in the Car Park D (behind Humanities Bridgeford Street building). It can be charged for free in this carpark, allowing it to be ready for the next user without issue. However, it should not be left for longer than is necessary at the charging point when returning the vehicle.

If you have any queries, please contact SEEDSchoolOffice@Manchester.ac.uk.
