eLearning
eLearning support is provided by Jonny Crook, Mark Lobjoit, Helen Perkins and Jo Williams.
We work with Peter Kahn, Chair in Digital Education (SEED/MIE).
Please get in touch if you have any technology-enhanced learning query, idea or suggestion. We can provide support for immediate queries, or arrange 1-1 meetings or group training sessions.
We recommend that new staff in SEED take a look through the New Staff guide below to find out more about our services and support.
SEED Good Practice Space
Visit the Good Practice space on Blackboard for example templates, case studies, resources and guides to support your use of technology in teaching.
Get in touch
If you have any technology-enhanced learning query, idea or suggestion, please get in touch via the support centre.
New Staff
Welcome to SEED and the Faculty of Humanities. We know that starting in a new role or institution can sometimes feel overwhelming so we’ve simplified some eLearning information to help you get started.
Step 1: Discover our services
The Faculty of Humanities eLearning Team provides support and services on teaching and learning related tools and approaches. We support PS and academic staff, including TAs. Some of our key services include:
- Blackboard support (for course content, activities, monitoring and assessment)
- Turnitin support (for assessment and feedback)
- Online exams support
- Learning and curriculum design support
We encourage you to explore the full range of tools, services and training available via the Humanities Teaching Academy site and the Humanities eLearning pages on staffnet.
Step 2: Meet the team
As part of the Faculty approach to eLearning support and development, each school has assigned Learning Technologists as well as an academic eLearning Lead to ensure that our work aligns with local practices and priorities. We are always interested in finding out more about your work and how we can support you.
- Peter Kahn: Chair in Digital Education (SEED-MIE)
Peter works closely with the Director of Teaching & Learning and coordinates eLearning activity across the school. - Jonny Crook & Mark Lobjoit: Learning Technologists
Jonny & Mark work for the Humanities eLearning Team with specific responsibility for supporting staff in SEED. - Helen Perkins: Learning Designer
Helen also provides eLearning support for the school and faculty, with specific responsibility for curriculum design. - Jo Williams: elearning Support Officer
Jo provides eLearning support in SEED and across the Faculty.
Additionally, we manage a SEED Good Practice Space on Blackboard which you can access through our SEED elearning support page.
Let us know (see troubleshooting below) if you don’t have access to this site, and we can look into it for you.
Step 3: Book a 1-1 with a SEED Learning Technologist
If you’d like to meet with one of the team, go through some key services and tools, and ask any initial questions, please book a 1-1 via our bookings page.
It would be helpful if you could provide a little information on your role and any initial queries in the additional information box.
Step 4: Troubleshooting
There are a number of ways to get support on any issues that might crop-up. As a first step we recommend you access our Faculty support pages to see if there are resources that can help. For example our FAQs page can be a great starting point, and we also have a known Faults and Issues page.
If you can’t find the answer then you can either:
- Put in a support ticket where one of the Humanities team will either triage or provide support. The tickets are monitored throughout the day so you can expect a timely response.
- Come along to our online drop-in. Open Monday-Friday 10-4, no booking required. This is a great resource to get quick responses to questions, be directed to relevant support, and/or have one of the team look over your problem with you. If we can’t resolve the issue straight away we will follow it up.
We encourage you to make use of these services rather than sending direct emails to the team as you’ll get a faster response due to our varied work patterns.
We look forward to supporting you in your use of technology in teaching and learning!
