Impact
As evidenced by the prominence placed upon the social and economic value of research within the Research Excellence Framework (REF), impact and knowledge exchange are becoming an ever more important part of the research landscape. The need to consider impact within the lifecycle of a research project becomes an extra requirement to take into account, both pre and post-award.
Key issues include the:
- communication of practical advice and experience to colleagues
- construction of a targeted engagement and dissemination strategy
- management and maintenance of stakeholder relationships
- inclusion of impact in research grant applications
- robust measurement and recording of impact
- translation of research for/to diverse groups of research users
Support for impact in SEED includes:
- Academic and PS staff dedicated to supporting impact
- Associate Director of Research (Impact), providing academic leadership
- Research Impact Facilitator, supporting grant applications, providing training, evidencing impact and developing case studies
- The SEED Impact Fund, which offers small grants for impact activities
- The SEEDs of Change seminar series, focusing on different impact related topics with presentations from academic and PS colleagues
- Impact drop-ins
