PSS Conference: June 2014

The PSS Conference was held on Thursday, 19 June 2014 at University Place. This was the sixth PSS Conference and brought together around 200 senior and middle managers from across the Professional Support Services. It was an opportunity to update key staff on progress against University and PSS priorities, contribute to the development of key priorities for 2014/15 and to develop further the single team ethos within the Professional Support Services.

Will Spinks, Registrar, Secretary and Chief Operating Officer opened the Conference with an overview of the University’s progress against its objectives for 2013/14, highlighting the important contribution made by PSS staff. Alison Wild, former University Secretary and Deputy Chief Executive at Liverpool John Moores University reflected more broadly on the role that Professional Support Services play in the HE sector, focussing on the importance of developing and supporting staff as managers and leaders.

There was an opportunity for the Conference to question members of the PSS Leadership Team, in particular on the relationship between Centre, Faculties and Schools, PSS Vision and Values and PSS Career Development. And Professor Rod Coombs provided a very interesting overview of the role the University plays within the city and the region.

There were also parallel break-out sessions for delegates looking at:

The Conference concluded with drinks in the sunshine – an opportunity for Will Spinks to thank staff for their hard work and valuable contributions over the last 12 months.
