Our Publications Policy has been updated

10 Oct 2025

Providing clarity about who can be named as authors and authorship responsibilities.

Our Publications Policy outlines the University’s expectations regarding robust publication and fair authorship practices which are integral to a responsible and nurturing research culture.

It is intended to ensure that all researchers are aware of their rights and responsibilities when publishing research. Failure to comply with these responsibilities may lead to ineligibility for REF submission, impact the receipt of future funding and breach the University’s Code of Good Research Conduct.

The policy has now been updated and can be seen at:

What are the updates?

  1. Clarity about when the University should be cited as your affiliated institution.
  2. PGRs need supervisor approval to publish work from their thesis.
  3. Clarity about authorship practices to strengthen our guidelines about authorship.
  4. Guidance about handling authorship disputes.
  5. The importance to research integrity of notifying errors to journals and retracting papers if necessary.
