Patricia Perlman-Dee (Senior Lecturer in Finance, Alliance Manchester Business School)

Patricia’s submission demonstrated her willingness to try new things, whether that be testing digital tools or finding new ways of delivery. Informed by the student voice she incorporated guest speakers into her course to give students content that was relevant to the content but also provided real world applications and connections.

Patricia has also gained an international reputation for using online tools, such as a trading platform simulator, to bring a fun element into her teaching while also showing students how they might react as a trader in trading floor scenarios. She was also commended by e-Learning colleagues for how clearly organised and structured her Blackboard sites were and how this, alongside weekly study charts, helped students with their flexible learning journey.

Her submission also demonstrated how she is impacting pedagogy by using 'engagement assessment': 25% of the assessment for her course is based on participation in workshops and the trading scenario session as well as other small ongoing exercises. Patricia delivered a presentation on her findings around student perspectives on different types of feedback at the AdvanceHE Assessment and Feedback Symposium in November 2021.
