Clinical Psychology Unit PSYC31222 Teaching Team, led by Warren Mansell and Louisa Jackman (Division of Psychology and Mental Health, School of Health Sciences)

Recognising the rapidly evolving mental health crisis faced by students, the teaching team for PSYC31222, led by Warren Mansell and Louisa Jackman, stepped up to adapt a new module addressing the implications of Covid-19 on vulnerable groups.

Aware of the sensitivity of the topic, particularly when engaging with vulnerable communities and a diverse student body, the team tailored trigger warnings into each lecture of the module. They built upon this by facilitating an open dialogue between themselves and the undergraduate learners on the unit, via well-resourced and in-house trained postgraduate teaching assistants. Combined with an increased emphasis on accessible resources and their own personal experience as practitioners, the team’s rapid adaptations and novel approach has led to considerable reach and positive response from students.
