Spotlight on applications and admissions training

Fiona Eccles and Sandra Kershaw, who are leading the implementation of new application and admissions technology and process, give an update on training.
We’re excited to announce that training for new admissions technology and process is almost ready for release! To give some background, before getting to this point we provided a series of introductory videos on our Applications and Admissions Yammer group. We didn’t want to overwhelm anybody with lots of detail straight away – instead, the videos give a high-level overview of what colleagues need to know now and what preparation work needs to be carried out locally.
Next, we scheduled Transition Workshops, where colleagues from different admissions teams came together to discuss the changes to admissions technology and processes, share updates on their local preparation work, and ask us any questions.
From June, more detailed training will be delivered. Zoom sessions have been scheduled, where we’ll introduce the training materials (and anticipated completion times) that will need to be completed to access the new systems. Most training resources for admissions are online training guides, ideal for working through in your own time and at your own pace. The guides contain a mixture of screenshots, videos, activities, and tutorials, along with short quizzes to help you test your own understanding. It’s clear from the guides where you need to go to seek help, clarification, or further support, so there’s no need to go back through the guides again if you just need to access a small piece of information in the future.
We have completed testing a sample of the resources with a group of experienced colleagues, whose feedback and recommendations is being used to inform future training developments. Feedback so far has been positive:
- 94% said the training was sufficient to allow them to understand how to complete the relevent process now
- 90% felt that the aims of the training were fully met
- 93% liked the format/layout of the training materials
