What is VoiceThread?
VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slideshow that can include text, images, documents, audio and video, and allows people to navigate slides and leave comments in several ways - using voice, text, audio or video. VoiceThreads can be created by staff or students, and be graded or un-graded.
VoiceThread is a cloud application, so there is no software to install. The only system requirement is an up-to-date version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. VoiceThread will run in your web browser and on almost any internet connection.
How Can I use VoiceThread?
These are just a few ideas to get you started:
- Narrate a PowerPoint presentation with audio or video (instructors can import a pre-existing PowerPoint)
- Pose a question or topic and use it as a visual discussion board
- Encourage student-to-student interactions
- Create digital stories (personalised photo-storyboards) by narrating over images, videos and slides
- Upload video to VoiceThread and gather reflections
- Evaluate, review or critique an idea or a student presentation
- Students can narrate their thought process step-by-step while solving problems. Classmates can interact with thoughtful questions or a critique of their reasoning
- VoiceThread as a reflection activity so students can respond to the instructor’s lecture and each other with voice, text, video, and images.
