What is VoiceThread?

VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slideshow that can include text, images, documents, audio and video, and allows people to navigate slides and leave comments in several ways - using voice, text, audio or video. VoiceThreads can be created by staff or students, and be graded or un-graded.

VoiceThread is a cloud application, so there is no software to install. The only system requirement is an up-to-date version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. VoiceThread will run in your web browser and on almost any internet connection.

How Can I use VoiceThread?

These are just a few ideas to get you started:

  • Narrate a PowerPoint presentation with audio or video (instructors can import a pre-existing PowerPoint)
  • Pose a question or topic and use it as a visual discussion board
  • Encourage student-to-student interactions
  • Create digital stories (personalised photo-storyboards) by narrating over images, videos and slides
  • Upload video to VoiceThread and gather reflections
  • Evaluate, review or critique an idea or a student presentation
  • Students can narrate their thought process step-by-step while solving problems. Classmates can interact with thoughtful questions or a critique of their reasoning
  • VoiceThread as a reflection activity so students can respond to the instructor’s lecture and each other with voice, text, video, and images.
