Faculty Committee Elections 2025

Results of the 2025 Faculty Committee elections

Following the close of nominations, the Faculty received six nominations for Category two (academic and research staff).

There was one nomination only for the School of Arts, Languages and Culture. Therefore Dr Roddy Hawkins, Lecturer in Music, was declared the winner for that category.

As multiple nominations were received for the seats in SEED and AMBS, a ballot was opened to elect those Faculty Committee members from 28 May-11 June.

The successful candidates were as follows:

  • Dr Paul Armstrong, Reader in Education at the Manchester Institute of Education in SEED.
  • Dr Sofia Yasmin, Senior Lecturer of Accounting in AMBS.

The new members have accepted the seats and will join the Faculty Committee from 1 September 2025.

Further information on what the role of Faculty Committee is, existing membership and responsibilities is available on the Humanities Staffnet page.

Further information about the Faculty Committee

What is the Faculty Committee?

The Faculty Committee was established in 2020 as an opportunity for the academic, professional services, and students to engage with Faculty leadership, especially in respect of key strategic, policy and resourcing issues. The group is chaired by the Vice-President and Dean of Humanities, Fiona Devine.

What is the benefit of being a Faculty Committee member

By becoming a member of the Faculty Committee you have the opportunity to:

  • be part of discussions relating to high-level Faculty policy, and to challenge and question issues as part of a constructive debate;
  • help shape the future of the Faculty - its academic strategy and organisation, and in turn shape our Schools and wider University;
  • provide a mechanism for putting important issues or new ideas from your colleagues in your School onto Faculty Committee agenda;
  • provide timely feedback about what is discussed at Faculty Committee to your School Board, and other key groups, so that your colleagues are kept up-to-date on current developments across the Faculty;
  • work with, and build relationships with, staff from different areas of the University in pursuit of common objectives.

Membership and terms of reference

Additional information

  • Faculty Committee meetings take place approximately four times per academic year.

Nominating an item to the Faculty Committee

If you would like to put forward an item for consideration to the Faculty Committee, please contact one of the elected committee members, or your School Board Chair, with the suggested item, and a short description of one to two sentences for context. You may contact any representative on the Faculty Committee, whether they are located in your School, or are from elsewhere in the Faculty.

A full list of current members can be seen in the Terms of Reference.

All items put forward will be considered and reviewed by the Chair, and the final agenda and minutes will be added to the Faculty Committee site following the meeting, and shared in the next issue of Humanities eNews.

Upcoming meeting dates for the Faculty Committee can be seen on the Humanities networks and committee page.
