Tell us what it's really like to work in MECD

Since the home of Engineering and Materials was first conceived over a decade ago we have been through an unprecedented amount of change and challenges, but our vision remains the same – creating an environment that helps to bring out the best in all of our colleagues, postgraduate researchers and students. This is a goal we’re continuing to strive towards as we enter the second year of our evaluation programme, by capturing your feedback and collaborating with you to deliver more effective building processes and improved facilities.

To date, we’ve collected rich feedback via a series of focus groups and email and reporting channels, and this has informed a number of key improvement areas across the site. Now, with over 12 months of practical and lived experience, we want to explore building users’ experience on a broader scale. These insights will help to identify trends or issues, inform priority action areas and, establish ways we can look to improve things.

Post-occupancy evaluation survey

Our first community-wide survey is your opportunity to share feedback around all aspects of life in the buildings, providing a more comprehensive understanding of what it’s really like to work in the home of Engineering and Materials.

We want to hear from all colleagues and PGRs who use the space, whatever your role type, how frequently you’re based on campus or how long you’ve worked in the Faculty. Everybody’s day looks different and with that comes different needs, priority areas and experiences – only through hearing from as many building users as possible can we identify what’s working well and what isn’t , and use these insights to improve how we do things on a wider scale.

The survey aims to take a comprehensive look at everyday working life in the building, exploring your experience with:

  • general building operations and processes;
  • the facilities and new ways of working, and how these have impacted your work, teaching and/or research;
  • elements such as collaboration, community and wellbeing support.

Completing the survey

This survey takes around 10 minutes to complete with sections broken up so you’ll only have to provide feedback around areas which are a part of your role and day-to-day activities. Once you've completed the survey, you can enter our weekly prize draw for a chance to win £150 of shopping vouchers – one winner will be selected each week between Tuesday, 21 November and Monday, 11 December, when this survey will close. Information around how responses will be collected and stored as part of this survey can be found via our privacy notice.

A build and move of this scale and complexity has never been undertaken by our University before, so we know we won’t have gotten everything right first time. That’s why the findings from this survey won’t only go onto support improvements for those of us based across the site but inform how approach change and our spaces across the campus.
