Christmas closure in Engineering Building A

14 Dec 2023

Operational information for buiding users ahead of Christmas closure

With Engineering Buildings A&B closing their doors over the Christmas closure period (Thursday, 21 December – Tuesday, 2 January), there’s a few notices and small operational asks we’d like to draw all colleagues’ attention to.

Building access

Colleagues are strongly encouraged to use the festive period as a break from work and not come onto campus. In order to meet University-wide sustainability goals, the heating will be turned off during this time and technical and cleaning services will be unavailable. Furthermore, both Booth Street West and Charles Street car parks will also be closed and, as part of refurbishment works to the Booth Street East Building, showers and toilets within the Active Travel Hub will be out of use during this time.

In exceptional circumstances where crucial activity requires an on-campus presence, this should first be discussed with your line manager/supervisor who should seek approval from Faculty Leadership Team. If this work is approved, you must ensure you’ve read and followed the steps outlined in the out of hours access process.

Cleaning your workspace and removing perishables

To make sure we’re returning to a clean working environment all colleagues need to take responsibility for ensuring open plan areas are free of food and that nearby fridges are cleaned and emptied before Thursday, 21 December. .

As part of ongoing pest control measures, any uncovered food left out in open plan workspace areas or due to expire during this time will be disposed of after Thursday, 21 December.

Turning off  desktop PCs and monitors

As part of University-wide efforts to conserve energy over the festive season, we ask that all colleagues switch off their desktop PCs and monitors. For PS colleagues working in areas with a shared desk policy, we ask that colleagues based on campus on our last working day make an effort to switch off any PCs in their area.

For any staff or PGR with a designated PC that needs to be left on over the closure period (e.g. for remote access) please leave a note on this device before you leave so we can make sure this is left on after Thursday, 21 December,

Storing / taking home your belongings

Please ensure you’ve taken all belongings with you when you leave for the festive break, and that any files, hardware or belongings you keep on-campus are stored securely in your personal locker.
