Conduct and Discipline Training
The University has produced an online training package for panel members which covers key elements of panel-based processes for student discipline, fitness to practise and support to study, including the principle of natural justice, external considerations, rights of students, administration, meeting structure, questioning, making decisions, and appeals. Though targeted at panel members, the content is likely of use to anyone involved in the three aforementioned processes, and so we would encourage all colleagues involved in those processes to complete the training:
Colleagues can watch a two hour session on conduct and discipline available through the University's video portal. This was from January 2026. This sets context to how the student discipline area works at the University. The session goes through policy, external headwinds, panel arrangements, hearing structures, decision making and appeals. This session will be useful to provide guidance for anyone involved in the disciplinary process.

The Advice and Response Team are currently working with FBMH to produce an interactive online training package for individuals acting as panel members across a variety of processes, including student discipline. We're hoping this will be available during semester two 2026 and will share details when we have them.
Elsewhere on the website, you can find a recording of a session for colleagues who sit on panels considering cases of sexual misconduct: see Sexual Misconduct Training. This session was from June 2022. Though a number of the messages remain valid, it is hoped this session will run again in semester two 2026.
