Chem10111 Teaching Team (School of Natural Sciences)

The Chem10111 Teaching Team: Nick Weise, Sam Hay, Jack Rowbotham and Alexander Romanov.

The team consists of research fellows, a professor and a teaching-focussed senior lecturer all form the Department of Chemistry who undertake team teaching, design online content, deliver in person active learning sessions and set/mark assessments for annual cohorts of 90-130 1st year Biological Science students.   The CHEM10111 Teaching Team nomination detailed how researcher and teachers worked together to address disparities in international and home student attainment. By adopting technology-enhanced delivery and assessment, the team saw international students outperforming their domestic classmates, contrary to the trend in the school this unit was delivered within. Student comments highlight the ease of use of bite-sixed video content as well as the value derived from in class group work and discussion of problem sets.
