Pay for Teaching Assistants

  • All new GTAs will be employed on point 1 of grade 5 of the University pay scale.
  • Annual leave is accrued at the rate of 1 hour for every 5.35 hours worked and will be incorporated into the monthly payment. Please refer to point 5 of the Statement of Terms and Conditions for further information.
  • Hours contracted are calculated to include time for preparation, administration, teaching, office hours, marking and provision of feedback.
  • Initially, you will be issued with a 'Humanities Teaching Assistant Appointment' letter, via email, from P&OD, along with links to supporting documents. Please note that P&OD arrangements are on a semester to semester basis. You will therefore not receive written information about your Semester 2 teaching until December/January.
  • If, after initial contracts have been signed, hours are changed then you should contact your Departmental TA Coordinator, who will then update your hours and inform the relevant TA Administrator.
  • Pay adjustments are processed on a monthly basis. P&OD are informed of the adjustment and your pay will be amended accordingly, unless it is a decrease in hours, and then it may be amended sooner.
