Research impact

As evidenced by the prominence placed upon the social and economic value of research within the Research Excellence Framework (REF), impact is becoming an ever more important part of the research landscape. The need to consider impact within the lifecycle of a research project therefore becomes an extra requirement to take into account, both pre and post-award.

Key issues include the:

  • preparation of ‘pathways to impact’ statements
  • management and maintenance of stakeholder relationships
  • construction of a targeted engagement and dissemination strategy
  • translation of research for/to diverse groups of research users
  • robust measurement and recording of impact
  • communication of practical advice and experience to colleagues.
