Research funding resources
Support for research projects is provided by three teams within the School of Social Sciences - Research Support Services, Research Finance and the SoSS Research Operations team.
The Research Support Team provides assistance to academic colleagues in preparing and submitting funding applications and managing new awards. The Research Support Team is managed by Paula Dalzell, the School Research Support Manager, who also provides strategic research support to the Head of School, Director of Research and School Research Committee. The Research Support Team's remit includes: explaining funder requirements; preparing budgets; supporting internal peer review; submitting and accepting awards; providing management information on applications and awards.
Requests for assistance from a Grant Facilitator to work with academics on large, strategic grants and to support early career researchers should be submitted to the Research Support Manager using the Request for Grant Facilitator Support form. The grant facilitator will advise on appropriate funders/calls (if requested) and work alongside the RSO team to coordinate the entire grant preparation process.
The Research Finance Team set up awarded projects on Oracle Financials, arrange fEC journals and transfers, prepare and submit reports to sponsors and provide general financial guidance throughout project life-cycles.
The SoSS Research Operations team assist with strategic finance, HR, communications, events and project milestones and reporting during the course of the grant. The Research Operations team is managed by Pip Walker.
Carly Fletcher is the Knowledge Exchange and Impact officer for the school, who can assist with Pathways to Impact.
