Teaching Academy update – September 2020

24 Sep 2020

As we embark on the new academic year, the Teaching Academy has been supporting staff who are adopting alternative approaches to their teaching.

The Teaching Academy has been helping to ensure that staff have the practical assets required to deliver blended learning and to date, a range of equipment including microphones, visualisers, graphics tablets and webcams has been delivered to over 440 members of staff for Semester one. The team is now liaising with colleagues to ensure they have everything they need for Semester two.

The Teaching Academy has been sending out weekly emails to our academic community pointing to a range of supporting material, guidance and resources. This includes the wiki which continues to be updated with useful information including guidance on assessment methods and blended learning for unit delivery assessment and a series of videos which cover topics including terminology and concepts, course structure, types of video, recording audio, why is online different, designing slides for video, example course structure and a course plan example.

The team has developed materials guiding staff on a range of issues from software for recording and editing blended learning materials to recording blended learning materials on campus. Please email the Teaching College if you would like to know more about the materials that are available.

Colleagues have also had the opportunity to submit unit delivery plans for feedback through the ‘planning your unit for blended learning’ course. The team has enlisted the help of a number of students who are willing to give informal feedback on blended learning materials. If you would like informal student feedback on a short video from your blended learning materials please contact us. All feedback will be confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of our student partners.
