Wired network installation across Engineering Building A workspace – Friday 24 March – Friday 12 May

A seven-week programme of work was recently announced, which will see an additional 332 wired network ports installed across Engineering Building A workspace between Friday 24 March and Friday 12 May. This will improve connectivity for research groups, where the complexity of their work requires an enhancement to the existing data provision.

Detailed below is the schedule of activity. This will progress through the Third to Sixth Floors in stages to minimise disruption.  Due to the scale of the installation process, access to workspace areas, including open plan desks and offices and in some cases meeting rooms and stair/lift access, will need to be restricted whilst this work is carried out. It is therefore vitally important that building users familiarise themselves with the programme (provided below) so as to understand the potential impact to planned activity.  No access will be granted to these areas whilst work is underway, so any personal items or equipment needed for work purposes during this time should be removed ahead of time.

Disturbance will be limited to the restricted areas, with little to no noise or disruption experienced by colleagues in the adjoining workspace areas, or in floors immediately above or below.

Alternative workspace

When access to your desk or office space is restricted, you may wish to consider temporarily relocating to alternative workspace in Engineering Building A or working from home where this is available to you. Alternative workspace includes:

  • Sixth Floor, Core One hot desks – 18 desks available every day;
  • Fourth Floor quiet working room (Room 4A.059A, Core Four) – 22-person capacity;
  • Fifth Floor quiet working room(Room 5A.050, Core Four) – 22-person capacity;
  • Meeting rooms available to book via Resource Booker.

Existing Room bookings which may have already been scheduled in areas which are now restricted will have been cancelled and notification issued to organisers. We apologise for this inconvenience. The Service Delivery Team will be happy to suggest suitable alternative space to hold your meeting or event – please contact them via TEAM@manchester.ac.uk
