08 Oct 2021

A message from Professor Danielle George, Associate Vice President for Blended and Flexible Learning

Dan George

I am delighted to announce that Dr Jane Mooney will be joining the Flexible Learning team as academic theme lead for ‘Digital skills and literacy’ and Professor Caroline Bowsher and Professor Ang Davies as academic theme leads for the ‘Digital learning environment’.

University Academic Lead for the Digital Leaning Environment: two positions held by Professor Caroline Bowsher and Professor Ang Davies

Ang is a Professor in FBMH and also Director of Digital Transformation in Healthcare Education in the School of Health Sciences. She has launched innovative new online courses and MOOCs and works extensively to create programmes of education and CPD for healthcare professionals. She is leading a new clinical data science programme involving a bespoke teaching environment to deliver data science education and is working with an interdisciplinary team to develop creative solutions to deliver to non-standard courses.

Caroline is a Professor of Biology in the School of Biological Sciences and most recently Associate Dean for Pedagogic Development in FBMH.  All the roles she has undertaken in managing teaching developments at the Faculty/University, alongside a National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) Award (2018) and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2016), recognise her commitment to improving education and student experience across the University.

University Academic Lead for Digital Skills and Literacy: Dr Jane Mooney

Jane is a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Medical Education.  She has a longstanding interest in supporting digital skills and literacy at our University, sharing practice with colleagues, supporting the embedding of digital skills within the curriculum as a Fellow of the Institute of Teaching and Learning and through the recent launch of the Jisc Discovery tool to students, collaborating with the Library's My Learning Essentials team to create the new ‘Develop your digital capabilities’ resource.

Ang, Caroline and Jane bring a wealth of experience, skills and ideas that will be invaluable to make our University’s move to blended and flexible learning a success and create the right environment to enhance and improve the student experience whilst enabling staff to support students in an agile and adaptive way. I am thrilled to have them as part of the Flexible Learning team.
