Updates to immigration guidance ready for 1 January 2021

10 Dec 2020

From January 2021, freedom of movement between the UK and EU will end

This means that citizens of European Economic Area countries (EEA) (excluding Ireland) will need to apply for visas to enter and work in the UK in much the same way as non-EEA staff do currently.

Our University remains committed to maintaining our global role and supporting international staff who are such an important part of our community.   If you are involved in recruiting staff who are based outside the UK, you should familiarise yourself with the latest government requirements and guidance on:

  • The Global Talent visa, which replaces the Tier 1 'exceptional talent' visa, and is already available to both EEA and non-EEA workers
  •  A new Skilled Worker visa, which replaces the Tier 2 Points Based visa and is open to both EEA and non-EEA workers

It’s important that we all comply with the new government requirements and guidance since the University is legally responsible for ensuring that every employee, casual worker, and migrant visitor, however brief their visit, is properly entitled to work in, and participate in the activities of our University.
