Volunteers needed to support Manchester's COVID-19 vaccination programme

Our University is helping to promote this opportunity on behalf of Manchester Health and Care Commissioning (MHCC), to support Manchester's COVID-19 vaccination programme

While great progress has been made in the effort to vaccinate Greater Manchester's population, an increase in COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant means that more volunteers are needed to strengthen the current workforce and engage with some harder to reach communities.

MHCC are looking to recruit more marshals to support community engagement. Manchester is hugely diverse and over 100 languages are spoken across the city. MHCC especially need volunteers who can speak other languages so advice and support can be offered to people who otherwise might not be able to access it.

Before volunteering:

• Make sure that the activity that you are thinking of volunteering for will have no detriment on work you are required to do for our University, especially if your work is vital to maintain teaching, research and other University operations. Any volunteering you take part in should be carried out in your own time or you can use annual leave if you wish to volunteer during working hours. If you are in doubt, speak to your line manager.   If you are currently on furlough leave you can carry out volunteering during the period you’re on furlough leave.
• Do not put yourself at risk. You must at all times follow NHS rules on social distancing, which are designed to protect everyone.
