Our podcasts to mark World Mental Health Day

25 Nov 2019

Three uplifting interviews available on Spotify – and listened to almost 800 times

The Division of Communications and Marketing produced three podcasts to mark World Mental Health Day on Thursday, 10 October.

Our Internal Communications and Engagement Coordinator, Suzanne Ross interviewed entrepreneur and businessman Vikas Shah, Head of Campus Life Sarah Littlejohn and Dr Sharon McDonald, an expert in suicide bereavement.

Suzanne also edited the interviews, while our Social Media Coordinator Harry Newton supported her efforts by acting as producer and distributing them on via our social media channels.

Vikas, an Honorary Professor of Business at the University, spoke openly about his own struggles with suicidal depression and anxiety, and the importance of separating work and social life. He explored the cultural expectations that lead people to overwork themselves and the need to talk openly about mental health issues.

Sarah Littlejohn talked about how the University is working to support students at every stage, including giving specialist training to staff. She also spoke about the University signing up to the online mental health community Big White Wall, promoted on campus at the start of November outside University Place.

Dr McDonald discussed her work in suicide bereavement and the engagement her work has generated, as well as the invaluable support provided by ex-footballer Neville Southall. She credits his input with the surge in male respondents to her survey on mental health.

The podcasts, available on Spotify, have now been listened to nearly 800 times.
