Give campaign aims to improve our well-being

Caring campus takeover raises awareness of the University’s dedication to the six ways to well-being

Sir Winston Churchill said: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

So, on Giving Tuesday, the Student Communications and Marketing and Student Support and Advice teams launched a campus takeover to improve our well-being through generous acts.

They aimed to raise awareness of our University’s dedication to the six ways to well-being and promote one particular way – Give.

Following a teaser campaign the evening before, and an e-shot on the morning itself, staff and students arrived on campus to find 6,000 envelopes that read ‘open me’. In the spirit of the day, each one contained a gift to the receiver, from a beautifully designed and inspirational postcard to free massages or gift vouchers.

Receivers were encouraged to share their stories of giving on social media using #UoMGivingTuesday.

The engagement was even more successful than anticipated. There had been concerns that people would feel too intimidated to take one, so carefully planned communications were set up to ensure students and staff knew the envelopes were intended for them. As it happened, the teams couldn’t re-stock fast enough!
