Find out more about Recruitment and Intake

29 Feb 2024

The Recruitment and Intake segment supports the Faculty in attracting the very best candidates from all walks of life

Recruiting excellent, ambitious and motivated students, students who are engaged with their own learning, who challenge us, and push us to be the best we can be is important for FSE. But as well as recruiting the best-performing students, as a Faculty we also want to remove barriers, increase access, and widen opportunities for those from less represented backgrounds and inspire a new generation, giving them every opportunity to fulfil their potential.

The segment is co-led by Peter Green (Vice Dean for Teaching, Learning and Students), Sarah Lister (Head of Teaching, Learning and Student Experience) and Jake Latham (Admissions Manager) with membership of the segment leadership team also including Rob Appleby (School Head of Education, Natural Sciences) and Obuks Ejohwomu (Head of Admissions, Engineering).

The Recruitment and Intake segment’s five year strategy has identified a number of key goals:

  • Enable access to higher education for all
  • Diversify the student cohort and reduce overreliance on a single market, delivering a high-quality, balanced intake
  • Develop a future-proofed and resilient admissions service that manages demand effectively and sustainably, whilst delivering a quality applicant experience
  • Use market intelligence to inform the design of the Faculty’s portfolio to meet the needs of prospective students

There are a number of milestones that will help the segment leadership team review progress, including:

Year 1
Establishing effective Recruitment and Intake Communities of Practice to implement a long-term intake management strategy.

Year 2
Developing a strategic and operational plan to increase applications and registrations from key WP and ISD markets, creating a more balanced cohort, reducing risk/financial uncertainty around single markets and improving student experience.

Year 3
Undertaking an audit of our activities and communications; we will have a shared definition of ‘quality’ applicant experience and have taken clear actions to implement this.

Year 4
In anticipation of the UCAS ‘Journey to a Million’, we will have delivered a plan to manage demand across the Faculty and have a resilient, externally-engaged Admissions service.

Year 5
We will have a fit-for-purpose course offering a process framework that allows us to steadily manage intake, in readiness for future change.
