New multi-faith space for staff and PGRs open in Engineering Building A

14 Dec 2023

Following staff feedback, this new dedicated space has been opened to accomodate all genders and types of worship

Our University is a diverse multi-cultural community with a vibrant mix of beliefs, faiths and cultures, and we strive to create an inclusive environment for all of our staff and students. With this in mind, we’re pleased to announce that a new dedicated multi-faith space for staff and PGRs is now open on the Fourth Floor, Core 4, Engineering Building A (Room 4A.053).

The development of this space is in response to feedback from building users around the need for dedicated multi-faith provision and is in line with the University’s cross-campus faith strategy.

Using the space

This new space accommodates all genders and types of worship, with blinds and an exterior vacancy sign to ensure privacy during use, as well as ablution facilities.

When using these facilities, we ask that colleagues are mindful of others using the space, ensuring all belongings are taken after use and the exterior sign has been marked vacant so others know the room is available.

Accessing the space

Access is behind swipe-card control inside the Fourth-Floor open plan workspace. If you need help locating the space, you can search the room number “4A.053” into our interactive map.

For any staff or PGR based outside of Engineering Building A who wishes to use the space, you can have swipe-card access into the open plan workspace enabled onto your staff card by completing the building induction – further details are available here.

Third-Floor welfare room

With the opening of this dedicated muti-faith space, we ask that colleagues use this facility for worship wherever possible.  The Third-Floor welfare room, which has provided a temporary space for prayer and worship, will now revert back to a  space for rest and wellbeing for those who need it.

Staff feedback on this welfare room’s design has also been sought, and in response a mural painting has been installed to provide a more calming atmosphere inside the space.

Student multi-faith space

A reminder that a dual-function welfare room and multi-faith space is available for students to use on the Ground Floor of Engineering Building A – Room GA.051, Ground Floor, Core 4, behind the staircase next to Café Collaborate.
