Update on multi-faith space in Engineering Building A

06 Mar 2023

Arrangements for multi-faith provision during the remainder of the 22/23 academic year and beyond

Our University is a diverse multi-cultural community with a vibrant mix of beliefs, faiths and cultures, and we strive to create an inclusive environment for all of our staff and students. With this in mind, we wanted to provide clarity to colleagues around current multi-faith arrangements within Engineering Building A.

Multi-faith provision – 22/23 academic year

For the remainder of the 22/23 academic year, space for prayer will remain available to staff and students in the Engineering Building A Welfare Room (Room GA.051) found on the Ground Floor (Core Four), adjacent to the main event space. This room can accommodate all types of worship and includes blinds and an exterior vacancy sign to ensure privacy during use, as well as a sink. If this space is in-use, information on alternative multi-faith spaces across campus is available here.

When using these facilities, we ask that colleagues are mindful of other using the space, noting that this room also used as a welfare provision for all building users. We ask that when leaving the room that you must ensure that all your belongings are taken with you after use and the exterior sign has been marked vacant so others know the room is available.

There is additional welfare space in Engineering Building A (Room 3A.012J) located in the workspace area on the Third Floor (Core 1).  Please note that this is in the security pass-controlled area and therefore accessible only to authorised pass holders.

Longer-term plans in Engineering Building A

Plans for a permanent and dedicated multi-faith space in Engineering Building A are progressing, part of an institutional level review of the provision across campus.  Representatives from across the community will be involved in helping to shape the design of the space and we hope to be able to share details, once confirmed, over the coming months.

In the meantime, information on the range of multi-faith spaces currently across campus is available here. If you have any questions, please get in touch via TEAM@manchester.ac.uk
